Tips To Help You List And Sell Your Home

Posted on

Preparation to sell your home is a big prospect with many tasks and projects that will need to be completed. As you work with your realtor to price your home accordingly and list it on the MLS, here are some recommendations to help you be successful at listing and selling your home.

Clean Up the Interior

The inside of your home and its appearance are going to be important selling points during the sales process. If the inside of your home is dirty, cluttered, and smelly, it is going to turn off most buyers and leave you with the potential for a low offer. To make your home look its best, take some time and clean up the inside by wiping down floorboards, ceiling fans, and other dusty or dirty surfaces, cleaning the carpets, and repainting worn-out walls.

Rent a storage space to put your extra items that don't fit very well inside your home. This includes the items inside closets and storage spaces. The less clutter you have in a space, the larger the room will look. Also, don't forget to go through your closets and pull out off-season clothes so that your clothing is not squeezed together. If you have clothing stacked on a shelf in your closet, space them out and don't pile them more than two or three items in a stack. This will make your space look cleaner and larger.

Improve the Exterior Appearance

Just as you need to clean up the inside of your home, don't forget to take time on the outside of your home, which is what people see first when they drive up. Mow your lawn if you are selling during the warmer months, and keep the lawn mowed at least once a week. Plan to mow more frequently than this to keep your lawn looking its best all the time because sometimes you might get a surprise showing and you want your home to look great.

Pull up any weeds that grow and spread down a new layer of mulch over your bedding soil. If you are selling in the fall and winter, keep the lawn free of leaves, and if it snows, shovel the walks and driveway soon after snowfalls, even if you do not live in the home. Arrange to have someone shovel your walks if you are out of town and keep them free of ice to avoid a slipping hazard.
