If you are planning on moving into a new apartment this summer, you are going to be moving during one of the hottest times of the year. Here are a few tips that will help ensure that you have a safe summer moving day into your new apartment. 

Turn On Your Utilities In Advance

Work with your new property manager and utility companies, and see if you can have your utilities transferred into your name and turned on the day before you are scheduled to move into your apartment.

If it is particularly hot outside, you'll want to be able to turn on the air conditioning the morning of your move so that your movers are able to relax a little when they bring your belongings inside. It is hot enough outside; you don't need to be hot inside as well. 

You should also make sure that your water and sewer is activated. That way, if anyone needs to use the restroom while going back and forth between your old residence and your new one, they will not have to hold it until they get back to your old residence. Turning on your water will also allow you access to fresh water.

Stock Up On Cool Drinks

The next thing you need to do is make sure that you have plenty of cool drinks for everyone helping your move. Moving and unpacking can be physically exhausting work; there is no need to add heat stroke or heat exhaustion to your day as well. 

Fill an ice-chest at both your old and new apartment with bottled water, sports drinks and perhaps some all-natural fruit juice as well. The goal is to keep everyone hydrated while moving and unpacking.

Find Somewhere For Your Pet To Hang Out

Moving day can be extremely hectic and chaotic, so make plans for your pets ahead of time. With so many people coming in and out of both your new and old apartment, it may be best to leave your pets with a friend for the day or to board them for a few days. 

You don't want to leave your pets inside of your hot vehicle while you are moving or neglect to give them the care that they need. 

Don't Forget About Your Houseplants

If you have houseplants, don't forget about transporting them. You are not going to want to put your houseplants in your moving van; they may tip over and get damaged. Additionally, many moving companies will not transport living things, including houseplants, in their vehicle. 

You should carefully load up your houseplants in your own vehicle and transport them early in the morning to your new home. Put the pots inside of similar sized boxes, and place towels around them to keep them stable and upright. When you get your plants to your new home, water them.
